LSEG welcomes new tech head

London Buildings WideThe London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has welcomed former Goldman Sachs executive Irfan Hussain to his new role as chief information officer.

Based in New York, Hussain is responsible for leading the exchange group’s technology team.

The appointment was announced in August, although Hussain only assumed the role on January 1. He takes over from Tony McCarthy, who is retiring after four years in the role.

Hussain held various roles in his time at Goldman Sachs, including chief information officer for the wealth management divisions as well as roles in the asset management divisions in New York and Hong Kong.

The LSEG has expanded its technology arm in recent years, not least with the takeover of market data provider Refinitiv in 2021. The exchange group has since acquired more market data vendors and a digital assets trading platform and struck a deal with Microsoft for cloud services.
