LGIM targets hydrogen economy with ETF launch

Hydroelectric stationUK fund manager Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM) has expanded its portfolio of sustainable thematic ETFs after launching what it claims is the first pure hydrogen economy ETF in Europe.

The L&G Hydrogen Economy Ucits ETF will target companies involved with the production of clean forms of hydrogen.

According to LGIM, these companies are expected to become more valuable based on their expanded role in the transition to a low carbon economy.

The ETF will be listed on the London Stock Exchange, Deutsche Boerse, Borsa Italiana, Six Swiss Exchange and the NYSE Euronext, and is available to UK and European intermediary and retail investors.

“The commitments being made to the hydrogen economy by governments and businesses around the world are creating long-term investment opportunities with short-term catalyst,” said Howie Li, head of ETFs at LGIM.

He added that the funds offer early access into the fast evolving industry while allowing investors to control the amount of hydrogen exposure in their portfolio.
