Universal Investments appoints DWS tech head as CTOGerman investment company Universal Investments has named John Burns as chief technology officer (CTO).

In addition to overseeing all aspects of the firm’s technology, Burns will also be responsible for the strategic direction and development of its group IT platforms, in what is a newly-created role.

Universal operates a fund services platform and serves as a Super ManCo based in Luxembourg.

Burns joins from German asset manager DWS where he was most recently global head of technology and operations and played a key role in implementing the firm’s technology transformation strategy.

Prior to that, he was global CTO at Pioneer Investments.

According to Francesca McDonagh, CEO of Universal Investments, the appointment was based on Burns’s “extensive digital leadership experience and strategic capabilities, along with his deep understanding of the fund industry”.

“As technology continues to reshape the fund industry with transformative possibilities, I am excited about the opportunity to unlock this potential together with my new colleagues, with the goal of accelerating innovation and delivering value to our clients,” said Burns.
