Fund administrator SS&C has acquired a minority stake newly incorporated company created by the merger of two shareholder services firms - UK-based Equiniti and the US-based American Stock Transfer & Trust Company.

Both Equiniti and AST were acquired by tech-focused private equity group Siris Capital last year.

The two companies were then put together to create an entity capable of serving buy-side firms and pension funds on both sides of the Atlantic

“We see shareholder servicing as complementary to the investor servicing business,” said Nick Wright, head of global investor and distribution solutions for SS&C.

"Transfer agents are facing the same challenges and opportunities as shareholder servicers to improve the end investor experience, and we look forward to exploring ways we can collaborate with Equiniti and AST on this mission," added Wright.
