UK fund manager JO Hambro Capital Management (JOHCM) has appointed Nikolaos Dimakis as senior data scientist.
He reports to head of investments Andrew Parry and will be responsible for managing and developing tools to support the investment teams at JOHCM and its impact investing arm Regnan.
Dimakis joins from Federated Hermes where he developed data management tools for integrating ESG processes.
“Hiring [Dimakis] is our first step into more systematically using data in our investment processes,” said Parry. “There is a tremendous volume of data out there for us to leverage, however separating the signal and the noise is crucial for finding value in it.”
A survey published back in December 2020 by SIX, the Swiss stock exchange, highlighted a shortage of data scientists in the asset management sector, which it described as “an important discrepancy in how firms approach data management and analytics”.
