The Bank of International Settlements (BIS) has appointed an executive at Sweden’s central bank to serve as the head of its BIS Innovation Hub.
Cecilia Skingsley currently serves as the first deputy governor of Sverige Riksbank.
She has been appointed on a five year-term, replacing Benoît Cœuré, who was appointed president of France's Competition Authority in January.
Coeure was the inaugural head of the innovation hub which was launched in early 2021 by the BIS, which is typically described as the central bank for central banks.
The hub was set up with the purpose of monitoring technology developments that could impact central banks’ activities and also to help develop products to improve the functioning of the global system.
Some of the work undergone by the hub has involved the tokenisation of green bonds and the establishment of central bank digital currencies (CBDC).
Skingsley and Sverige Riksbank are especially active in the CBDC space.
