The funds industry is in flux. As regulatory costs force established players to consolidate, innovations such as exchange-traded funds and cryptocurrencies threaten to seize an ever-greater market share.

After the 2008 financial crisis, when memories of lock-ups and frozen assets were still fresh, illiquid funds were shunned. Not so in 2018.

A panel of experts from across the funds industry was asked to comment on the survey.
