MSCI acquires real estate analytics firm

AcquisitionIndex provider MSCI has completed its acquisition of property data firm Real Capital Analytics (RCA).

The deal was originally announced in early August and will see MSCI part with $950 million in cash.

RCA boasts more than $20 trillion of commercial property transactions and 200,000 investor and lender profiles on its database and the acquisition is viewed by MSCI as a significant strengthening of its private assets capabilities.

It also highlights the appeal of real estate as an asset class to the institutional investment world and the need for enhanced analytics, according to MSCI chairman and chief executive Henry Fernandez.

“The commercial real estate sector is seeing substantial transformation driven by several factors, including shifting consumer behaviours in work, lifestyle and travel accelerated by the pandemic, realignment in global supply chains, and the impact of climate change,” said Fernandez.
